The Canning River

What gets me outdoors taking photos? Grey skies and rain – lots of rain! When I had some spare time after a meeting today I  navigated my way down to the river in between showers to take this photo for you all.

A tutorial will be on the blog a little later to show you how I got to this stage.

Enjoy

Little Beach Ocean Motion

This was a six image stitch blended with PTGui.  Shot with my Canon 17-40mm f4 and Manfrotto 303SPH. Andrew Halsall was standing right next to me when I took this…talk about pressure to get it right!

If you use PTGui there are a few little hints that I will share with you at a later stage (when I have some spare time).

So until next time

Happy Shooting

Moody Salt Lake

I’ve gone for the really moody look on this photo. It was taken from a low angle looking up at the clouds rolling by. This is the first edited image that I have used my Lee filters!

I have a 180 image ( – thats right I said one hundred and eighty!) multi row panoramic of the Stirling Ranges at sunrise to stitch using my Lee Filters and Manfrotto 303SPH – so stay tuned! The RAW images look amazing!

The Pinnacles

On the way back from Geraldton I decided to head to the Pinnacles.

I got there at about 3.00am and walked around in the torch light for about 20 minutes before I stumbled on this scene.

My Iphone came in handy yet again. I used the compass to predict where the sun would be rising so I wouldn’t have my shadow in the shot and the sunrise/sunset app told me the exact time I would get the perfect light.

Armed with this vital information I set up my Manfrotto tripod with my camera bag used as a weight and held an umbrella horizontally into the wind to protect my camera.

I had to fight the wind most of the night/morning as it tried it’s best to blow me over. After enduring 4 long hours of sand in my eyes, being buried alive and goose bumps the size of Everest I managed to pull this shot off.

Enjoy!

Mount Field National Park – Tasmania

I was quite fearful of falling through the rotten log beneath me for this shot. However I survived to show you the result.

Taken on my Manfrotto 303sph head using a Canon 17-40mm f4 – 2 image vertical stitch.

Horrocks Beach

About two weeks ago I went to Geraldton for work. On saturday morning I managed to get myself up at 4am for the sunrise to go and take photos out at Horrocks Beach with Shawn and Zoe.

Shot this image with my trousers rolled up and tripod legs submerged in the water.  I have a few more to go through so stay tuned.

Make sure you check out Shawn’s and  Zoe’s blogs.  They both have some amazing images.

Greens Pool, Denmark WA

I shot this one with David Sobik last weekend at Greens Pool. The sun was producing some interesting light due to the smoke from a bush fire.

I’m not quite sure on this one so I have put it on the blog to get some thoughts….

Madfish Bay

I went out in the middle of the day with David Sobik to photograph some classic blue sky shots at Madfish Bay near Demark, Western Australia. Came into a bit of a problem with the light. Calm had decided that they wanted to do an aerial burn. Bye bye blue sky.  However filters to the rescue!

If you would like to know the story behind this photos and see a photo of me taking this photo click here.  I got a bit wet for this shot!

Enjoy

On the way home

This image was taken yesterday as I drove back to Perth along Albany Highway. Shot using the trusty Canon 1D MKIII and EF 17 – 40mm f4L with a Hoya ND8.

Nanarup Sunrise

I’m down in Albany at the moment preparing for a wedding next week. I left Perth 11pm and drove through the night to get to Nanarup beach to meet with a good mate Andrew Halsall. (If you haven’t added him to your blog roll do it now – you can check out his new blog here)

I ended up wading through the water in my boots to get these images. Images were shot using the Canon EOS 1D MKIII & Canon EF 17-40 f4 L.
