Photographing My Backyard with Adrian and Paul

What a photographers day! Paradise to be exact. Getting up at 4.45am with my head torch turned on full brightness I made my way down the overgrown backyard path to the Canning River with Adrian Wayte and Paul Pichugin. The moon was glowing and the photographers were scouting for an early morning sunrise over the river rapids. Adrian and Paul’s images from today managed to capture the serenity of the morning. The gentle sound of the river as it rolled across the rocks echoes in my mind whenever I see their masterpieces. Thanks for a fantastic morning guys!

I have added another two abstract images I captured earlier today to my unofficial backyard collection. Enjoy

Africa – Barn Owl

Another image I took on my last visit to South Africa.  BIF BIF!!!!

Enjoy

Geraldton

This is another image I took when I went out for a sunset shoot near the Greenough River Mouth with Wade, Shawn, Mel & Zoe. To this day the smell of rotting seaweed still makes me want to be sick! I almost threw up when I stepped out of the car. With a blocked nose and on the verge of vommiting I managed to pull off this shot. It made it worth it!

I wanted to capture the movement of the water and the afterglow of the sunset. Pity there was no clouds that day.  I think I’m going to brave it again and get back out to this beautiful location.

Enjoy.

The Pinnacles

On the way back from Geraldton I decided to head to the Pinnacles.

I got there at about 3.00am and walked around in the torch light for about 20 minutes before I stumbled on this scene.

My Iphone came in handy yet again. I used the compass to predict where the sun would be rising so I wouldn’t have my shadow in the shot and the sunrise/sunset app told me the exact time I would get the perfect light.

Armed with this vital information I set up my Manfrotto tripod with my camera bag used as a weight and held an umbrella horizontally into the wind to protect my camera.

I had to fight the wind most of the night/morning as it tried it’s best to blow me over. After enduring 4 long hours of sand in my eyes, being buried alive and goose bumps the size of Everest I managed to pull this shot off.

Enjoy!

Tasmania Workshop with Christian and Nick

On my recent trip to Tasmania attending one of Christian and Nick’s courses I managed to take this pano with my trusty 85mm f1.2

I can remember everyone else on the course were waiting for the first glimpse of light at Sleepy Bay. So if anyone has any shots from the course do share the link in the comments section. That includes Christian and Nick!

Tasmania

Here is another landscape from my trip to Tasmania. To me I think this image needs a boat or something in the foreground to give some perspective. Let me know your thoughts.

Greens Pool, Denmark WA

I shot this one with David Sobik last weekend at Greens Pool. The sun was producing some interesting light due to the smoke from a bush fire.

I’m not quite sure on this one so I have put it on the blog to get some thoughts….

Behind the scenes

People have asked me what type of gear I have been using so I thought I better take some shots while it is still in one piece.

Pictured below:  Canon 40D with Sigma 8mm fisheye. Manfrotto 303SHP pano head sitting on a Manfrotto 338 leveling head (old school stuff). Standing on Manfrotto 190XB PRO legs.

I only use this setup for 360 VR panoramics and the odd panoramic.

I’m thinking about selling my Manfrotto head and leveling base for something a little more slick…only time will tell though.

Also:

Just so everyone knows there is a photomarket at the Leederville Town Hall, 84 Cambridge Street coming up on the 25th July.  Starts 8.30am to noon. Hopefully I might just pick up a bargain or two. Let me know if you’re going along.

Pinnacles

I was scanning through lightroom and forgot that I still had these images to post.  Silly me.

I wanted to show the size of the place by using depth of field…of course the lens of choice to use on this occasion….the Canon 85mm f1.2. Love it!

Happy Shooting!
